One day you will wake up to the realisation that you’re not living the life you truly want for yourself. You’re allowed to leave it all behind and start over. You’re allowed to reinvent yourself, to let go of who you should be and be guided by who you are.
I’m on the hunt for who I’ve not yet become — Anonymous
When your chosen career path no longer fulfils you it’s okay to leave and go start over with something that does. Some people may not understand, they may even try to tell you that you’re crazy for wanting to start over.
Don’t be deterred, they don’t believe they can do it so they’re trying to convince you that you can’t either.
In the words of American author F. Scott Fitzgerald:
When your relationships reach a dead end, make the bold decision to change direction and take the route the makes you happy. Love is simple; we are the ones who complicate it. Simplify your life by removing everything that’s weighing you down.
This is especially true when it comes to friends and people you choose to surround yourself with. Stay away from people who are always negative or quick to put others down and spread gossip. If they can do it with you, they will do it to you.
Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you, wiser than you and more successful than you and it will open your mind and broaden your networks.
When family members drain you, love them from a distance.
Cheer for others when they pursue their dreams even when you still doubt your own. Your encouragement might be the push they need to take the risk. Seeing someone else do it will give you the hope that you can too.
You deserve a place that makes you feel alive
When commuting to work every day and enduring horrendous traffic on a daily basis gets the better of you, move. Be it jobs, neighbourhoods and even cities. Sometimes you outgrow a place, and when it no longer feels like home, you deserve to find a place that is. A place that steeps your soul, that makes you feel alive, a place that has your name written all over it, a place that is your sanctuary.
To change your mind means to believe in something better that exists out there even though you’re not quite sure how to get it. So when you’re ready to take the next step, have faith that what lies ahead, scary as it may be, is exactly where you need to be.
