Have you ever had one of those days when you just feel defeated? Maybe you just woke up feeling down or things just aren’t falling into place the way you’d like them to. Or perhaps you had a bad day at work and got home only to have a friend call you and offload all their troubles on you during an hour-long conversation. You feel weary and beat down, yet you still have to be the supportive friend and you still have to go back to work the next day to do it all over again.
Whenever I’m in some kind of funk, nothing lifts my spirits like a powerful song. Music is like religion, it unites people and gives you a sense of comfort and peace that few other things can. It helps me to refocus, to realise that one bad day does not translate into a bad life.
These are just some the songs I listen to when I don’t feel like talking to anyone. When I don’t feel like facing the world but I have to show up anyway. When I feel dejected and unsure of how I’m going to get myself unstuck. There are so many others that I could’ve added to the list but for now, I hope these classic anthems offer you the same sort of solace that they give me.
